About the Journal
Advancing the Science of Ethnomedicine & Medical Wellness
The Journal of Ethnomedicine and Medical Wellness (JEMEDWELL) is a rigorously peer-reviewed, open access publication dedicated to advancing the scientific understanding of traditional medicine systems, ethnopharmacology, and wellness practices rooted in diverse cultural traditions worldwide. Our mission is to provide a trusted global platform where empirical research, systematic inquiry, and evidence-based scholarship illuminate the enduring value of ancestral healing knowledge for contemporary medicine.
Published biannually, JEMEDWELL welcomes original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, case studies, ethnographic investigations, and short communications from researchers, clinicians, and practitioners working at the intersection of traditional healing and biomedical science. We are committed to equitable, culturally sensitive scholarship that honors indigenous intellectual property and community sovereignty.
Scope & Focus Areas
Ethnobotany & Medicinal Plants
Scientific documentation and validation of plant-based medicines, botanical pharmacognosy, and traditional phytotherapeutic practices across world cultures.
Traditional Medicine Systems
Research on Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jamu, Unani, Sowa Rigpa, and other codified healing traditions and their clinical applications.
Medical Wellness & Preventive Care
Wellness promotion, preventive medicine, lifestyle interventions, and holistic health practices that integrate traditional and modern approaches to human health.
Indigenous Health Knowledge
Ethical documentation and preservation of indigenous healing practices and community health systems, conducted with full prior informed consent and benefit sharing.
Phytochemistry & Pharmacognosy
Chemical characterization of natural products, bioactive compound isolation, standardization of herbal preparations, and pharmacological validation of traditional remedies.
Integrative & Complementary Medicine
Clinical evidence on integrating traditional therapies with biomedical care, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, mind-body practices, and complementary health approaches.
